A teenager was arrested on a DUI charge after state police say they clocked him driving more than 110 mph on Interstate 84 in Southington on Thursday night.

A trooper conducting traffic enforcement around 10 p.m. spotted a gray Toyota Corolla traveling quickly on I-84 West in the area of Exit 32, according to Connecticut State Police .

Using a laser speed gun, the trooper found that the driver was reportedly going 113 mph in a 65 mph zone and pulled the vehicle over, state police said. The vehicle pulled into the right shoulder.

The driver, who was identified as 19-year-old Avila Carvalho De, did not respond when a trooper asked him if he knew how fast he was going, state police said. When asked where he was coming from, Carvalho De said Brazil, according to state police.

State police said a trooper noticed Carvalho De was allegedly showing signs of impairment and was asked to take multiple field sobriety tests. He reportedly failed the tests and taken to Troop H in Hartford, according to state police.

Carvalho De faces charges of reckless driving and operation of a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol or drugs. He was released on a $5,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in New Britain Superior Court on Oct. 29.
