Danville's HAFHR program helping homeowners with needed repairs
Nov. 6—Some Danville homeowners who struggled during the COVID-19 pandemic are getting much-needed help on home repairs, thanks to the City's IHDA Homeowner Assistance Fund Home Repair Program (HAFHR).
Of more than 500 applications submitted in the first two weeks of February 2024, 18 projects were selected from a randomized lottery — five have already been completed, seven are in progress, and six are still in the preliminary stages.
The Illinois Housing Development Authority's HAFHR program aims to address critical home repair needs for homeowners who make 150% or less of the area's median income, providing approved homeowners up to $60,000 for each project.
The application developed by Administrator Logan Cronk and his team has garnered recognition and is being used as a model for other communities, highlighting the quality, fairness, and meticulous attention to detail involved in the process.
The City of Danville has been invited to reapply for the IHDA's HAFHR program, and preparations for this submission are currently underway. If awarded funding again, all applicants will retain their position in the randomized order.
