Deadly crash involving pedestrian shuts down busy Phoenix street

PHOENIX (AZFamily) — A deadly crash involving a pedestrian has closed a busy street near Phoenix Sky Harbor Airport early Friday morning.

Police say the collision was reported near 44th Street and Van Buren , just north of the airport, around 5 a.m. When officers arrived, they found a man lying in the road seriously injured, and he was pronounced dead at the scene.

According to police, the driver involved stayed at the scene and did not show signs of impairment.

Authorities say Van Buren Street from 40th to 44th Street will be closed for an extended period of time. Drivers should avoid the area and use alternate routes.

Arizona's Family crews witnessed debris littering the street and crime tape blocking the road.
