DeCicco, Suresh, Doan, Lian advance to semifinals of PAC singles tennis championship

On Thursday, Day 1 of the Pioneer Athletic Conference girls tennis singles championship was played at Perkiomen Valley, with four of the top six seeds advancing to Friday's semifinals with the championship to follow shortly thereafter. The first two rounds of the tournament featured two rounds of 10-game pro sets before the quarterfinals shifted to the more typical high school model.

Into Friday's final four were top-seeded Elliana DeCicco of PJP, No. 2 Chelsea Lian of Methacton, No. 5 Anika Suresh of Methacton and No. 6 Chloe Doan of Upper Merion. No. 4 Claire Montgomery of Methacton will square off against No. 8 Cindy Li of Perkiomen Valley in the fifth-place match, also on Friday.

The top eight overall seeds and the first three rounds of results are listed below:

Perkiomen Valley 181, Spring-Ford 216

Perkiomen Valley won its second consecutive PAC championship on Thursday at Spring Hollow with another 10-0 season in league play. The Vikings are 15-1 in their 16 matches. Against Spring-Ford, the team was led by Nadia Yackanicz (41), Saloni Patel (42), Julia Minder (48) and Ashley Minder (50).

Boyertown 157, Pope John Paul II 162

Riley Pier's 34 led the way in Boyertown's win on Thursday, and she was followed by Emily Gates, Kiley Stezenko and Hannah Adamski, all of whom posted 41's.

Boys Golf

Owen J. Roberts 205, Boyertown 206

Colin Daugherty's team-best 38 led the charge for OJR, which claimed the narrowest of victories over Boyertown at Hickory Valley. Leif Matlack (41), Leo Martin (42), Tyler Nau (42) and Brody Calle (43) consistently contributed to the close win.

Chase Dillman's 35 led all comers for Boyertown, which also got support from Joey Bilotta (39), Will Swartly (41), Jameson Yost (45) and Parker Cetera (46).

Spring-Ford 184, Methacton 193

Abe McNelly shot a sizzling round of 4-under-31 as the Rams defeated Methacton in a hard-fought battle at Skippack Golf Course. The rest of the Spring-Ford scorers also posted sub-40 rounds: Lucas Kozak (37), Sean McMahon (38), Colin Ferko (39) and Michael Gravinese (39). The team ended its regular season as the No. 1 team in the PAC, losing just one league match all season — by a single stroke to Boyertown last week.

Methacton's golfers also played well, getting solid production from Brody Hydock (37), Paul O'Malley (37), Matt Baldwin (39), Matt Rieger (40) and Jack Bradford (40).

Upper Merion 206, Pottsgrove 223

In an ideal day for golf at Westover Golf Club, Upper Merion prevailed on the team's Senior Night over Pottsgrove. Leading scorers for the Falcons were Asher Hofstaedter (41), Doug Raggazino (42), Charlie Potpinko (45), Carter Burg (46) and Owen Mountz (49). Burg, Hofstaedter, Potpinko and Ragazzino all qualified for Monday's PAC Boys Individual Championship at Turtle Creek.

Perkiomen Valley 192, Norristown 236

Girls Soccer

Owen J. Roberts 3, Phoenixville 0

Owen J. Roberts won its eighth consecutive game and registered its third straight shutout in an impressive win over Phoenixville. Fiona Sanders, Ana Estrada and Leah Royds all scored for the Wildcats, while goalie Devon King blanked another PAC opponent.

Spring-Ford 5, Pope John Paul II 0

Izzy Pandorf, Natalie Fuller, Mya Hassan, Abby Huxta and Lily Hassan all found the back of the net for Spring-Ford, which won for the ninth time in 10 games this season. Brynn Vickery and Sadie McClain chipped in assists for the Rams, who got a combined shutout from Olivia Nield and Riley Reavy.

Hill School 2, Shipley School 1

Girls Volleyball

Methacton 3, Pottstown 0 (25-6, 25-8, 25-5)

Caroline Welsh (8 kills, 2 aces), Giselle Focht (5 kills) and Anya Panesar (5 kills) all led the Methacton attack as the Warriors cruised to victory over Pottstown. Sophie Rosti chipped in 25 assists, three kills and three aces.
