Living Delight at Dog Obsessed With Hot Tub: 'Sailor in a Past Life'

A dog has left the internet in stitches over his bizarre obsession-floating in the hot tub.

Brooke Trainor 25, from Vancouver, Canada, shared the story of how her dog, a Maltipoo called Finnegan, became obsessed with the jacuzzi , in a reel that has garnered 111,730 likes and 1.3 million views on Instagram .

Trainor shared her excitement at witnessing her fluffy companion's love for the tub.

"My reaction was pure joy-I was squealing when I saw how much he loved floating in the hot tub! It's one of those moments where you're so overwhelmed with happiness, it brings tears to your eyes.

"Every night, my family and I are just in awe of how much Finnegan loves life and how safe and happy he feels. It's truly fulfilling to see him so content. We never imagined he'd become our nightly hot tub buddy, but now he even asks us to go in earlier," Trainor told Newsweek.

In the video , Trainor revealed how they gifted their pooch a floaty, not knowing if he would take to it.

He became utterly obsessed with the warm bubbles, standing beside the tub with his floaty, tilting his head in that irresistible way, begging his owners to join him.

"He's obsessed," Trainor wrote over the video as Finnegan pleaded at the side of the tub. After taking a dip, he has his trademark zoomies around the garden-bursts of wild energy where a dog runs in circles out of pure excitement.

"Finnegan always wants to be right by our side, so whenever my mom and I would go in the hot tub, he would stay in the yard playing with my dad.

"One day this summer, we were at the dollar store and spotted a little drink floaty, and we had this fun idea-'Could Finn fit in this?' Turns out, he could, and he absolutely loved it!

"He'd float with us for a few minutes at a time, then suddenly get a burst of zoomies, run around the yard, and come right back to the hot tub steps asking to get in again. We quickly realized how much he enjoyed it, so we got him a bigger floaty from Canadian Tire, put a towel in it, and now he joins us in the hot tub every night," Trainor said.

Although some experts advise against letting dogs into hot tubs due to the heat and chemicals in the water potentially irritating their skin, eyes, and ears, Finnegan's family keeps him safe by only allowing him to float for short bursts. Thanks to his floaty, he doesn't actually touch the water, so he avoids the risks that come with submersion.

Trainor brought Finnegan home in October 2022 shortly after losing their beloved dog of 14 years and they celebrated his second birthday in August 2024.

"Finn came into our lives like a ray of sunshine during one of the darkest times, bringing light, comfort, and joy when we needed it most. We truly couldn't imagine life without him," Trainor said.

Finnegan, a 7lb fluff ball, with his playful antics and endearing personality, has made an unforgettable impression on all who meet him.

His owner said: "He's a social butterfly who loves to interact with everyone he meets, manages to make everyone fall in love with him and leave with a lasting impression. He's got this adorable mix of energy and relaxation-one minute he's full of zoomies, and the next, he's soaking in the hot tub like he's at a spa."

Instagram users were smitten by the pup's hilarious habit.

"Awww he just wanted to be in there with you so bad. Y'all could be swimming in hot lava and he'd want to float with you, so sweet!! P.S. the floaty was such a great idea!" said one viewer.

"He was a salty sailor in a past life," said a second viewer.

"You do not want to do this!!!! He'll get so relaxed and start asking for a margarita next!" joked a third dog lover.

"You guys are great pawrents," a fourth fan added.
