Denver police prepared for possible election violence

DENVER ( KDVR ) — The Denver Police Department said officers are ready to respond to any violence that may occur on Election Day and beyond.

Police have been training and prepping for election season since the beginning of the year. That training has included police, fire, the sheriff's department and federal authorities. The Denver SWAT team and intelligence unit will also be monitoring activities throughout the city.

Denver Police Chief Ron Thomas said all six police districts will be fully staffed during Election Day. Denver officers will be assigned to each polling station and the city and county building all day long.

K-9 units will be deployed for continuous sweeps of polling locations to check for possible explosives.

Police will also be monitoring online activity for any possible threats.

The FBI will also establish command posts at every one of its 56 field offices around the country, including Denver.

Thomas said so far, there has been no indication of any planned violence in Denver.
