LAWRENCE TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — Authorities say a woman was arrested after crashing into a house near Lawrence.

The Van Buren County Sheriff's Office said it responded around 4:30 p.m. Thursday to a report of a crash on 63rd Avenue near the intersection of 51st Street in Lawrence Township.

When deputies arrived, the sheriff's office said they found an SUV crashed into a portion of the house. Investigators say the driver had drunk alcohol before she lost control when trying to maneuver a curve on 63rd Avenue.

The sheriff's office said she was charged with operating while intoxicated and taken to the Van Buren County Jail.

There were no reports of injuries.

When Daniel Penny wrapped his arm around the neck of a homeless man on a Manhattan subway last year, the 25-year-old veteran appeared to be deploying a non-lethal chokehold long drilled into U.S. Marines. Done right, the maneuver should knock a person out without killing them, according to Joseph Caballer, a combat instructor in the Marine Corps who trained Penny in several types of holds. Prosecutors allege that Penny "went way too far" in his attempt to restrain Neely, showing an "indifference" toward his life even after he had lost consciousness and stopped fighting back.
