Detroit Lions vs. Green Bay Packers first half open thread

C.Chen3 months ago
The Detroit Lions and Green Bay Packers are prepared to face off in the Thanksgiving Day Classic—a tradition that dates back to 1934 for the Lions. No team has won more times on Thanksgiving (okay, and not team has lost, either), as Detroit holds a 37-44-2 record on the holiday.

The Lions actually were holding close to .500 football before their recent string of losses. Detroit has lost six in a row on Thanksgiving, with their last win being a thrilling comeback victory over the Vikings in 2016. That said, the last time these two teams met on Thanksgiving was in 2023, when the Lions absolutely throttled the Packers to the tune of a 40-10 beatdown AKA the Matt Flynn revenge game.

Like back then, the Packers are floundering without Aaron Rodgers. The Jordan Love era is off to a bit of a rocky start, as Green Bay sits at 4-6 with only long-shot odds at the postseason. They’re playing better ball as of late—with Love tallying his first 300-yard game last week in a win over the Chargers . However, then enter this game with a huge list of injuries, and coming into a short week, that’s not exactly a great formula to win.

The Lions, on the other hand, only will be missing a single player—starting left guard Jonah Jackson. They’re coming off an uninspiring game against the Chicago Bears , but they also managed to still pull off the win thanks to a furious comeback in the final four minutes.

I sense this week is a much better matchup for the Lions, and have them a winner by multiple scores. But they play the games for a reason.

Happy Thanksgiving, everyone!
