Two people have been rescued from the sea in Devon after they got into trouble during "very poor weather conditions", Exmouth RNLI said.

In a post on Facebook , Exmouth RNLI said it was called after a pair of wingsurfers got into difficulty at about 18:02 BST on Sunday.

A yellow wind and rain warning was in place across Devon at the time of the rescue.

Despite "challenging breaking surf", Exmouth RNLI said its volunteer crew located the wingsurfers and brought them to safety.

The Met Office said wind speeds in Exmouth were likely to have been more than 40mph (36 knots) on Sunday.

"Luckily both were unharmed and our volunteers safely returned them to shore," Exmouth RNLI said.

Wingsurfers use wings on surfboards to propel themselves through the water.
