Sean 'Diddy' Combs has been accused of ruining a young rapper's life by allegedly forcing him to take the fall for a 1999 nightclub shooting.

Moses Michael Levi Barrow, who used to perform under the name Shyne, was the only person convicted following the infamous New York City shooting.

The upcoming rapper, born Jamal Barrow, was sentenced to a decade behind bars before ultimately being deported to his native Belize.

His conviction came following a high-profile trial in which he claims his former mentor turned on him.

'When I was an 18-year-old kid, just wanting to do nothing other than make my mother proud and make Belize proud and, do what all of us want to do, be recognized for our talent and take over the world,' Barrow told Belize's Channel 5 .

'I was defending him, and he turned around and called witnesses to testify against me.'

'He pretty much sent me to prison. That is the context by which you must always describe that relationship. Yes, I forgave. I moved on. But let us not pretend as if I was in Miami for Thanksgiving and Christmas.'

Barrow was among Combs' entourage during the fateful night in December 1999. Combs was on his way to stardom in at the time, having just released his self-titled debut album, which he decided to celebrate with Barrow and Combs' then-girlfriend Jennifer Lopez at Club New York.

But Combs accidentally bumped into Brooklynite Matthew 'Scar' Allen and spilled his drink, leading to a heated argument that ended with a wad of cash being thrown in Combs' face.

A scuffle ensued and gunshots rang out, leaving three people injured.

JLo, Combs and his body guard quickly fled the scene, but were pulled over for running a red light and arrested for storing a gun in the getaway car.

Combs was then charged in the shooting, but was later acquitted, while Barrow was sentenced to 10 years in prison on assault and weapons charges.

He has said he was defending himself, a stance he still maintains. Lopez did not face any charges over the scandal, but split up with Combs shortly afterwards.

By 2003, Barrow was dropped from Combs' Bad Boy Records, and one year later, Barrow publicly said Combs betrayed him.

'Let us not lose sight of what the cold, hard facts are. This is not someone who I vacationed with and who he and I enjoyed this great, intimate relationship of brotherhood,' Barrow added.

'This is someone who destroyed my life, and who I forgave, and who I moved on.'

Barrow has since become a successful politician in his home country and explained he reconnected with Combs, 'for the better interest of Belize'

'Because he was in a position at that time to give scholarships and to maybe invest,' Barrow explained.

'I would not deny attempting to bring the investment to Belize and contribution to education to Belize.'

His comments came in the wake of Combs' arrest for racketeering conspiracy and sex trafficking.

'Do I take any joy with what he is going through? Absolutely not. I am different than other people — no one needs to fail for me to succeed,' Barrow added.

Combs pleaded not guilty to the charges. He is accused of inducing female victims and male sex workers into drugged-up, sometimes dayslong sexual performances dubbed 'Freak Offs.'

He is currently in jail after a judge rejected his $50 million bid for bail.

Barrow became leader of the opposition in the Belize House of Representatives in 2020 and is a prominent figure in the Belize United Democratic Party.

He returned to the US in 2021 as an ambassador for Belize where he met up with Combs on August 25 of that year.

Barrow said the two had an 'understanding after speaking over the phone' in 2012 and planned to meet in the future, according to Hot 97.
