Disney fans call out new bake shop for ‘absurd’ prices, including $26 cake slices

A cake shop opening soon at Disney World Resort in Orlando, Florida is already drawing criticism for its high prices.

The Cake Bake Shop by Gwendolyn Rogers on the BoardWalk is scheduled to open later this year and replaces the ESPN Club, which closed in 2022. An opening date has not been announced.

According to the shop's website , it will serve "handmade cakes that are one-of-a-kind in beauty and taste, attractively displayed on French porcelain platters topped with glass domes."

Photos of the shop's posted menu are circulating on Reddit, where users are blasting the prices, calling them "absurd" and "outrageous," including cake slices starting at $22.

"Absolutely ridiculous and honestly this is robbery," wrote one person on Reddit. " Those prices come with park tickets?," shared another.

A video by "Fantasy Land News " shows the menu listing Gwendolyn's Famous Earl's Court Chocolate Cake at $26 a slice, Oprah's "O" List Mint Chocolate Cake at $24 a slice and Pumpkin Spice Cinnamon Roll cake for $22 a slice.

It's not just the desserts people are calling out.

"$26 for scrambled eggs is absolutely absurd," one Reddit user posted.

"It's $8 for a Coke.. that's nearly double everywhere else on property," commented another.

Disney said the shop will be open for breakfast, lunch and dinner as well as afternoon tea, desserts and cocktails. It's located near the park's Crescent Lake.

The Cake Bake Shop also operates other locations in Indiana where prices appear to be slightly less expensive.

Baked goods are not the only thing vacationers will be paying more for at the theme park.

That's because Walt Disney World tickets for 2025 have gone on sale and the prices have taken a leap up from this year's, according to CNN. Some of the lowest single-day, single-park ticket prices have increased by $10.
