Display of true friendship [letter]

I just finished watching "Will & Harper" on Netflix. It's an excellent documentary about the life of a transgender woman, Harper Steele, and her male friend, Will Ferrell, and how they deal with her transition. Can their friendship survive? What can they say and what can they feel?

I heartily recommend taking two hours out of your life to learn about transgender issues and how to support and be a friend to someone who chooses to go this path publicly. It may help you have some empathy and resist the urge to make fun of "those people." The documentary explores the many issues for each of the two individuals.

Chances are that you know someone who is either publicly or privately transgender. Be a true friend, accept them and learn how to help them be happy despite the the many challenges they face. You will be a better person and the world a better place for it.
