Doc: Man accused in deadly east El Paso crash had been drinking at gender reveal party
New details were released about the deadly drunk driving crash where a couple was killed in east El Paso over the weekend.
According to the El Paso County Sheriff's Office, 28-year-old Dalia Olivas and her fiancé 29-year-old Rick Ballard died after a crash on the intersection of Rojas and Eastlake.
Olivas was a teacher atTriumph High School- El Paso West.
The accused intoxicated driver was identified as 23-year-old Juan Francisco Del Valle Ferrer.
Del Valle Ferrer has been charged with two counts of intoxication manslaughter.
When deputies arrived they saw a black Mercedes with Florida license plates against the center median of the road.
They also saw a grey Honda HR-V on the eastbound lanes.
The arrest affidavit statedRick Ballard who was in the Mercedes had been ejected from the vehicle and his right leg severed and still in the vehicle from the impact of the crash. He died at the scene.
Olivas who was the passenger was taken to the hospital where she died.
The affidavit stated Del Valle Ferrer had ignored a stop sign at a high rate of speed on Rojas Drive.
A witness stated Del Valle Ferrer was accelerating and approaching the intersection of Eastlake and Rojas which had a solid red light. He disregarded the red light and t-boned the black Mercedes on the driver's side.
Responding deputies smelled an odor of alcohol emitting from Del Valle Ferrer. When the emergency responders asked Del Valler Ferrer how much he had to drink, he responded "a lot" prior to passing out.
The document stated Del Valle Ferrer had a baby blue wristband from a gender reveal party.
The black Mercedes after it struck, spun and ejected the driver then collided with the traffic light pole.

WhenRick Ballard was ejected, his right leg was pinned into the vehicle and torn off as he was ejected from the vehicle, the affidavit stated.
The mugshot for Del Valle Ferrer has not been released.
