Doctor Odyssey Plows Through Rough Waters During Wellness Week (Recap)

B.Wilson38 min ago

All is not well during Wellness Week.

In Thursday's episode of Doctor Odyssey , Avery reveals she's earned a scholarship to go to medical school. (Yay! She's far too good for all this love-triangle tomfoolery, so we do hope she jumps ship soon.)

But soon after making her big announcement, our favorite nurse is plagued by a serious case of appendicitis. Even worse: she can't writhe in pain in peace. Just as her situation gets dire, the ship cruises right into the eye of a disastrous hurricane. (We know Max arrived on board with a lengthy resume, but should we start asking about Captain Massey's credentials?)

As Max and Tristan cut Avery open for an emergency appendectomy, Massey decides to take on the storm by "riding the trough" — aka chaotically zig-zagging his way through massive waves in a way we've never seen on any of Below Deck's 11 seasons. (Captain Lee would never!)

Elsewhere, health guru and influencer Bethany Welles (played by guest star Amy Sedaris) boards the boat, bringing along her personal chef Vivian (BlacKkKlansman's Laura Harrier) — who also becomes Tristan's love interest, and later decides to join the ship's crew full time.

Joining Bethany are plenty of health-conscious people, including wellness freaks Judy (All-American Girl's Margaret Cho) and Agnes (A League of Their Own's Kate Berlant). The pair get the ball rolling on their own less pressing medical emergency after blending some Diva Dust smoothies — a special concoction that they claim can cure both dyslexia and hiccups. Coincidentally, the blue sludge can also cause kidney failure — a fact that Agnes learns rather quickly.

But Agnes doesn't suffer alone. The woman later exacts her revenge by (accidentally?) puncturing Judy's lung during an intense session of acupuncture.

This week also introduces us to more Odyssey crew, including the ship's engineer (Grimm's Jacqueline Toboni), the Head of Housekeeping (The Flash's Rick Cosnett) and a bridge officer (Good Trouble's Marcus Emanuel Mitchell).
