RENO, Nev. (KOLO) - Ruth Gentry and her son, Roan, owe a lot to their rescue dog, Sammy . Sammy was rescued from the side of the road by the Churchill Animal Protection Society (CAPS) and eventually found his fur-ever family with Ruth and Roan. After his adoption, Sammy suffered a debilitating disease that left his back legs unable to move and forced him into a wheelchair. However, he hasn't let that stop him and in fact, seeing that what makes Sammy different is also what makes him special, has also helped Roan understand that having dyslexia and struggling in school is not something to be ashamed of.

Ruth, Roan and Sammy were featured in a short film by Mutual Rescue , a nonprofit whose global initiative is to inspire change by advocating that "saving animals saves people, too."

Ruth and Sammy stopped by Morning Break to invite the community to their screening of their documentary, " Rescue is Forever ," Sunday, Oct. 20 at Lead Dog Brewing (415 #E. 4th Street, Reno). The event is from 3-5 p.m. A $10 donation is suggested at the door and 100% of proceeds go to CAPS. CAPS is the only no kill shelter in rural Fallon and if they close their doors, the dogs are in jeopardy of euthanasia.

You can follow Sammy's journey and see his special bond with Roan on social media.to see his Instagram.
