Douglas County officials plan for physical security on Election Day

OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) - Just one day away from Election Day, and security at the polls is top of mind.

The Douglas County Election Commission says physical security has always been a top priority for them.

That's why they have worked closely with the Douglas County Sheriff's Department for many elections.

On Monday and Tuesday, members of the sheriff's department will be at commission office as the ballots are counted. The department is also helping with traffic control Tuesday night.

"Voters should know that there's been a lot of effort from a lot of agencies that are coming together to cooperate for this election to ensure the safety of not only the public but our poll workers and our polling places," says Election Commissioner Brian Kruse.

Within the past few years, the office has upgraded its camera system. There are cameras just about everywhere inside and outside– even inside the break room.

If you run into an emergency while casting your vote, Kruse says always call 911. Poll workers also have an emergency number that they can call.

For incidents that don't need immediate attention, but you still want to report it, you can call the office at 402-444-VOTE.
