SW Washington congressional candidates still on campaign trail

SW WASHINGTON (KPTV) - The night before Election Day, many candidates are still out on the campaign trail-knocking on doors, making phone calls, and in Washington, they are even collecting ballots.

Between the many contentious races in our area, one of the closest races is in SW Washington, as Joe Kent challenges incumbent Marie Glusenkamp Perez once again.

Kent and his supporters lined up along Main Street in Battle Ground, waving signs. Kent says his goal is to keep people excited up to the last minute of this election.

Kent's campaign office opened up early Monday, posting on social media urging his supports to stop by and drop off their ballots so his team can turn in those ballots for them on Election Day.

Ballot harvesting is legal in the state of Washington.

"Quite a few people have dropped off ballots at our campaign office," says Kent. "We have had teams of canvassers out, I've been out on doors in north Clark County for most of the day so folks hand us their ballots, we just got three here in the last little bit out sign waving."

On the other side of this race, incumbent Glusenkamp Perez is taking a different approach.

Instead of collecting ballots, her team of canvassers are door knocking and helping voters make a plan for how they will turn in their own ballot if they have not done so already.

She says it is important to her that people participate and make their voices heard.

"Just knocking on doors, making phone calls and making sure people are getting their own ballots in and that they are confident that our ballot boxes are safe and secure and that it is urgent that we show up and have our voices heard," she said.

To show her confidence in that security Glusenkamp Perez dropped off her ballot at the Fisher's Landing ballot box last week.

This was a very close race back in 2022 and each candidate is hoping the voter turnout will tilt in their favor.
