Downtown WPB gets a sporty spin with new pickleball courts opening

As the weather starts to get a little cooler and less humid here in south Florida, you might be looking for something fun to do outside with your family or friends.

Many people in our area love and enjoy pickleball, as it's the fastest growing sport in the country played inside or outside. Now, people in Palm Beach County will get to experience a new way to play just in time for the holidays.

You may have heard of the company, , from their various locations throughout New York City and Philadelphia. They were invited to open their first Florida location right in the heart of CityPlace in downtown West Palm Beach.

"When CityPlace invited us to come and activate, we said an immediate yes. CityPlace understands the energy and the joy that pickleball brings and that can really be a center of community. This is heaven, isn't it?" said Mary Cannon, a Co-Founder of CityPickle.

While there are plenty of pickleball courts in our area, the lifestyle brand's co-founders tell us they're hoping to offer newcomers and players something different.

"There are places to play in public parks, which we love because we always enjoy seeing the sport of pickleball grow, but sometimes those are long wait times. What we offer is the ability to get on our booking app and book a court," said Cannon.

CityPickle has 13 courts. It'll offer individual court rentals, open play, clinics, lessons and private event bookings. Each court gets a private cabana to lounge in.

The co-founders say this is a great opportunity to bring the community together, whether you know how to play or not.

"We love south Florida. We're very excited to come to what we think is a community that loves pickleball," said Erica Desai, a Co-Founder of CityPickle. "It's just a wonderful opportunity to introduce ourselves to West Palm Beach and hopefully be in this community for a long time."

The co-founders tell us they wanted to make the price for these state-of-the-art courts affordable for everyone to enjoy, whether in small or big groups.

"We wanted to make the pricing very accessible. We have peak and off peak times. During our peak times, courts begin at $80. We invite up to eight players, so that's very affordable at $10 per person even at our peak times," said Cannon.

You may be familiar with CityPlace downtown. The pickle ball courts will be taking over the once vacant lot at 545 Hibiscus Street, right by the Hibiscus parking garage and El Camino. This location offers plenty of restaurants, shopping, and entertainment nearby.

CityPickle West Palm Beach opens Friday through early March.

The courts are open from 7am to 5pm, but those hours will adjust as it stays lighter later next year.
