Dr. J Featured At Philadelphia Cup At Parx Racing Saturday Sixers legend Julius Erving and other Philly sports figures will be at the Parz racetrack in Bensalem on Saturday afternoon.

—It might be a slam dunk when you have Dr. J at an event.

The Philadelphia 76ers legend Julius Erving is among the featured sports guests at Parx Racing Saturday on behalf of The National Thoroughbred League (NTL), a first-of-its-kind racing league reimagining America's oldest spectator sport.

The event takes place with doors opening at noon and races beginning at 2:30 p.m. at Parx Racing, 2999 Street Rd.

The Philadelphia Cup will feature over 20 former Eagles, Giants, Sixers, and Flyers will be in attendance, including Dr. J, Brian Westbrook, Seth Joyner, Otis Anderson, Freddie Mitchell, Howard Cross, and more.

The National Thoroughbred League has created a team-based professional sports league, by consistently and safely running exceptional horses allowing fans the chance to root for the same stars month after month and year after year.

The NTL is also a lifestyle, creating weekends of food, fashion, and fun akin to the Kentucky Derby or Formula 1, organizers said.

Sports guests include Julius Erving, Brian Westbrook (Eagles), Seth Joyner (Eagles), Freddie Mitchell (Eagles), Ottis Anderson (Giants), Howard Cross (Giants), Beasley Reece (Giants), Hollis Thomas (Eagles), Barrett Brooks (Eagles), Irving Fryar (Eagles), and Brian Propp (Flyers). Erving is co-owner of the Philadelphia Stallions team.

The day will feature five NTL races and include an Oktoberfest celebration with beer, food, and live music.

Here's what to expect on site:

  • Meet and greets with a dozen Philadelphia sports legends
  • Private beer garden, with great brews on tap.
  • The NTL music stage, with Philly legends and other performers.
  • National anthem and surprises from the Drexel pep band
  • "Best in Philly" food offerings
  • Incredible art demonstrations, starring Eric Waugh, the NTL's Guinness Record-holding artist-in-residence
  • Fan fashion shows: Dress in your Derby best, strut your stuff in front of the crowd and you may find yourself in the actual winner's circle
  • The NTL 10 teams, from the Stallions to New York Knights to the California Shamrocks, facing off in 5 consecutive races, with 3 hours of higher stakes, building excitement, cheering sections, and then the big finale. It's like nothing else in horse racing or sports today.
