Driver dead after vehicle struck by train in Vonore, THP investigating

VONORE, Tenn. (WATE) — One person is dead after a train collided with a vehicle at the Evans Street and Old Slag Road crossing in Vonore.

According to a statement from CSX, one of their trains collided with the vehicle at 7:56 a.m. on Friday, September 20. The driver was killed as a result, however, no injuries were reported by the train's crew. The Tennessee Highway Patrol and the Vonore Police Department responded.

"CSX appreciates the swift response of Monroe County. CSX extends its deepest sympathies to everyone impacted by this tragic incident, and we will work to support local law enforcement as they investigate," wrote a spokesperson for CSX.
