Driver making left turn killed in collision with coach bus in Lansing: Police
One person died after a crash involving a commercial bus in Lansing, Kansas, Wednesday night, Lansing Police Chief Steve Wayman said.
Officers responded just before 7 p.m. to the intersection of Kansas Highway 7 and 4H Road on a reported crash. According to a preliminary investigation, a coach bus was traveling south on K-7, or Main Street, when a sedan attempted to make a left turn at the intersection.
The sedan collided with the bus, causing significant damage to both vehicles, Wayman said. The driver of the sedan was pronounced dead at the scene.
Wayman said there were no other injuries reported in the crash.
The road was closed for around five hours as crews worked to clear the scene Wednesday. Part of what took so long was attempting to find a tow service that could transport the coach bus, Wayman said.
Wayman said the bus had to be towed so the highway patrol could complete a commercial vehicle inspection on the bus as part of the investigation into the crash.
"Getting a tow service big enough to transport that bus — there's only a few of them in the Kansas City metro that would be able to handle that," Wayman said.
Police have not yet publicly identified the victim.
An investigation to determine what led to the crash is ongoing.
