Eagles pull off miracle overtime victory behind five Jalen Hurts touchdowns

PHILADELPHIA — Double-digit deficits? They do not bother the Philadelphia Eagles. Down-to-the-wire games? They embrace them. Fifty-nine yard field goals? You’re up Jake Elliott. Fall behind in overtime? That was a new obstacle for the Eagles, but just another one they conquered Sunday at Lincoln Financial Field.BUY EAGLES TICKETS: VIVID SEATS No matter what happens through the course of 60 minutes and, in this case beyond, the 2023 Eagles feel as though they can almost always win in the end and that’s because they almost always do. Their latest script was so unbelievable it probably would be rejected in Hollywood. Down 10 at the half, down 10 after three quarters and down three in overtime, the Eagles rallied again and again and again before pulling out a 37-34 victory over the Buffalo Bills. They improved to 10-1 as soon as Jalen Hurts finished off a nine-play, 75-yard drive by breaking free for a 12-yard touchdown run that ended the game with 2:37 showing on the clock. Booed off the field at halftime by their spoiled fans and playing without their three-time Pro Bowl right tackle Lane Johnson , the Eagles collected themselves and delivered another nail-biting victory. “This game is going to come down to the last drive,” Eagles veteran cornerback James Bradberry predicted during the practice week. “That’s most NFL games, but I definitely feel like (the Bills) are better than their record displays right now, so we better be on our P’s and Q’s.” It was an interception by Bradberry that set up a go-ahead touchdown for the Eagles in the fourth quarter. After being picked apart much of the day by the arm and legs of Josh Allen, Bradberry stepped in front of a pass intended for Stefon Diggs and came up with his first interception of the season, returning it to the Buffalo 24. Faced with a third-and-15 from the 29, it appeared as if the Eagles might have to settle for a game-tying field goal. Instead receiver Olamide Zaccheaus slipped behind safety Micah Hyde and Hurts fired a strike to him in the back of the end zone for a touchdown. That gave the Eagles their first lead of the game at 28-24 and set up a wild finish. The Bills answered that score with a 10-play, 75-yard drive that ended with a seven-yard touchdown throw by Allen to Gabe Davis, who beat Bradberry on a slant pattern. It was a sensational back-and-forth battle between Hurts and Allen. Hurts, the leading candidate for the NFL MVP award, started slow, but finished with five touchdowns — three passing and two rushing. Allen, meanwhile, completed 29 of 51 passes for 339 yards and two touchdowns and ran nine times for 81 yards and two touchdowns. The Eagles entered the fourth quarter still down 10 points after Allen scrambled out of the backfield for a 16-yard touchdown on a third-and-11 play. The Bills converted 13 of 22 third-down plays during the course of the game and finished with 505 total yards. Not even that, however, was enough to beat these 2023 Eagles.
