Early Voting Begins For 2024 Election: What's On Reston Ballots Early voting in the 2024 general election begins Sept. 20 and runs through Nov. 2. Races on the ballot range from president to county bonds.

RESTON, VA — Early voting in Virginia for the Nov. 5 general election begins Sept. 20. Voters will cast ballots to decide who will be the next president and vice president, as well as who will represent them on Capitol Hill.

In the 11th Congressional District, incumbent Rep. Gerry Connolly (D-Fairfax) faces Republican challenger Mike Van Meter . The district includes all of Fairfax City and the portions of Fairfax County, roughly west and south of the Capital Beltway/I-95 corridor. The 11th District is considered solid Democrat in the 2024 Cook Political Report's House Race Ratings .

In the U.S. Senate race, incumbent Sen. Timothy Kaine (D) is running against Republican Hung Cao .

This year's ballot includes a referendum to amend the Virginia constitution, as well as transportation and public safety bonds for Fairfax County residents.

Voter Registration: The deadline for registering to vote in the Nov. 5 general election is Tuesday, Oct. 15, at 5 p.m. (in-person) and 11:59 p.m. (online). Same day registration is available after this deadline. Voters can check their registration status, register online, check their voting history and find their local precinct by visiting the Virginia Department of Elections Citizen Portal .

Mail-In Ballot Deadlines: The deadline to request a mail-in ballot is 5 p. m. on Friday, Oct. 25. Ballots returned by mail must be postmarked by Nov. 5 and received by noon on Nov. 8. Ballots can also be dropped off at the ballot drop box outside the Fairfax County Government Center or in-person at the Office of Elections, or the drop box at your voting precinct by 7 p.m. on Nov. 5.

Absentee/Early Voting: There are two ways for voters to request an absentee ballot. They can either apply online or complete a form to submit a ballot by mail or email at the Virginia Department of Elections Citizen Portal or complete an application form . Voters will need to provide their Social Security number and Virginia driver's license when submitting an application online. Voters will be able to apply for a specific election or to permanently receive mail-in ballots for every election that they are eligible to vote. Voters can also track their mail-in ballot and their ballot status online.

From Sept. 20 through Saturday, Nov. 2, Fairfax County voters can vote early at three locations:

  • Fairfax County Government Center, 12000 Government Center Parkway, Room 251, Fairfax, 22035. Hours: Monday – Friday: 8 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.; Saturdays (Sept. 21, Oct. 19, Oct. 26, Nov. 2): 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. Sunday (Oct. 27): 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.
  • Mount Vernon Governmental Center, 2511 Parkers Lane, Alexandria, 22306. Hours: Monday – Friday: 1 p.m. – 7 p.m.; Saturdays (Sept. 21, Oct. 19, Oct. 26, Nov. 2): 9 a.m. – 5 p.m.; Sunday (Oct. 27): 1 p.m. – 5 p.m.
  • Mount Vernon Governmental Center, 1801 Cameron Glen Drive, Reston, 20190. Hours: Monday – Friday: 1 p.m. – 7 p.m.; Saturdays (Sept. 21, Oct. 19, Oct. 26, Nov. 2): 9 a.m. – 5 p.m.; Sunday (Oct. 27): 1 p.m. – 5 p.m.
  • On Oct. 17, Fairfax County voters can cast in-person ballots at 13 additional early voting centers. The hours are: Monday – Friday: 1 p.m. – 7 p.m.; Saturdays (Oct. 19, Oct. 26, Nov. 2): 9 a.m. – 5 p.m.; Sunday (Oct. 27): 1 p.m. – 5 p.m.
