Early Voting Begins In 2024 Election: What's On Fredericksburg Ballots Early voting in the 2024 general election begins Sept. 20 and runs through Nov. 2. Races on the ballot range from president to county bonds.

FREDERICKSBURG, VA — Early voting in Virginia for the Nov. 5 general election begins on Sept. 20. Voters will cast ballots to decide who will be the next president and vice president, as well as who will represent them on Capitol Hill.

In the 7th congressional district, incumbent U.S. Rep. Abigail Spanberger (D) will retire at the end of the year so she can run for the governor of Virginia. Democrat Eugene S. Vindman and Republican Derrick M. Anderson are running to be Spanberger's successor in Congress.

The 7th district includes the City of Fredericksburg, as well as portions of Prince William, Stafford, King George, Caroline, Culpeper, Orange, Madison, Green, and Albemarle counties. The 7th congressional district leans Democrat in the 2024 Cook Political Report's House Race Ratings .

In the U.S. Senate race, incumbent Sen. Timothy Kaine (D) is running against Republican Hung Cao .

This year's ballot includes a referendum to amend the Virginia constitution, as well as a school funding bond for King George County residents.

Voter Registration: The deadline for registering to vote in the Nov. 5 general election is Tuesday, Oct. 15 at 5 p.m. (in-person) and 11:59 p.m. (online). Same day registration is available after this deadline. Voters can check their registration status, register online, check their voting history and find their local precinct by visiting the Virginia Department of Elections Citizen Portal .

Mail-In Ballot Deadlines: The deadline to request a mail-in ballot is 5 p. m. on Friday, Oct. 25. Ballots returned by mail must be postmarked by Nov. 5 and received by 12 p.m. on Nov. 8. Ballots can also be returned at the 24-hour Ballot Drop Box outside 601 Caroline St.. The box will be locked at 7 p.m. on Nov. 5.

Curbside Voting: For the Nov. 5 election, curbside voting is available in the first two parking spaces closet to Caroline St. To arrange for curbside voting, voters can park and call the office of Voter Registration and Elections at 540-372-1030.

Absentee/Early Voting: There are two ways for voters to request an absentee ballot. They can either apply online or complete a form to submit a ballot by mail or email at the Virginia Department of Elections Citizen Portal or complete an application form . Voters will need to provide their SSN and VA driver's license when submitting an application online. Voters will be able to apply for a specific election or to permanently receive mail-in ballots for every election that they are eligible to vote. Voters can also track their mail-in ballot and their ballot status online.

Where And When To Vote Early

In Fredericksburg City, in-person early voting begins Sept. 20 and runs through Saturday, Nov. 2, and takes place in the Office of Voter Registration and Elections at 601 Caroline St., Suite 500, Fredericksburg. Hours are Monday-Friday, from 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m.

Extended voting hours for those wishing to vote in-person are scheduled for Thursday, Oct. 24 and Wednesday, Oct. 30, from 8:30 a.m.-6:30 p.m. Saturday hours of operation are Oct. 26 and Nov. 2, from 9 a.m.-5 p.m.
