Eighth-inning fireworks doom Omaha Storm Chasers against Iowa Cubs
DES MOINES — After trading leads in the eighth inning, Iowa held on for a 5-4 win over Omaha on Thursday night.
The Storm Chasers trailed 3-1 after six innings before tying it on back-to-back homers by Brian O'Keefe and Tyler Gentry in the seventh. It was O'Keefe's third homer this week.
Omaha (54-29) grabbed a 4-3 lead in the eighth on Devin Mann's sacrifice fly that scored John Rave. But the Chasers' only lead of the game was short-lived.
Caleb Knight led off the bottom of the eighth with his first homer with the Cubs, then Owen Caissie delivered a one-out RBI double for the go-ahead run. Omaha was retired in order in the ninth.
The teams continue their series at 7 p.m. Friday.
