EIU Students for Palestine to hold rally on campus
CHARLESTON — The EIU Students for Palestine group plans to hold a rally at 4 p.m. Friday, Dec. 1, on the Mellin Steps, next to the library quad on campus.
Students have held a series of rallies this fall in support of the Palestinian people. Hamas forces in Gaza invaded Israel on Oct. 7, killing more than 1,200 and taking about 240 hostages. Israel launched a counterattack and has blockaded the Palestinian territory, with thousands of fatalities reported. The two sides have had a brief truce recently while exchanging hostages and prisoners.
The EIU Students for Palestine group stated in its rally announcement that a pause in fighting is just a pause and that it demands a permanent ceasefire. The group is also calling for an end to the siege of Gaza and for the U.S. to cut all aid to Israel.
