Election literacy events designed to break down the election process

J.Smith27 min ago

RACINE, WI — Election Day is just 42 days away, and to help ensure every voter in Racine feels equipped to make their voice heard, Racine County Eye and the new Racine Monitor will host two election literacy events.

"Your Vote, Your Voice: Election Literacy Forum," is a two-part series designed to break down the election process and provide clear insights into critical issues on the ballot, specifically targeting areas where voter turnout has historically been low.

Yusuf Buckley, who formerly ran the Racine Insider and now leads the Racine Monitor, is passionate about ensuring residents are informed and ready to vote.

"The forum is for anyone who wants to understand the local election process better, whether it's their first time voting or their fiftieth. We're focused on giving people the tools they need to cast their vote and have their voices heard," Buckley said.

Election literacy during two events

Two election literacy sessions will be held in Racine:

  • Event 1: October 9, 5:30 to 7 p.m., George Bray Center, 924 Center St.
  • Event 2: October 10, 5:30 to 7 p.m., Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Community Center, 1134 Dr. Martin Luther King Dr.
  • Each forum will cover practical topics like how to register, where to vote, and how absentee and early voting work.

Local election officials and community leaders will offer clear guidance on these issues and discuss the key topics voters will decide this fall, from education and healthcare to public safety and economic development.

Attendees will have the chance to ask questions directly during an interactive Q&A session.

Why attend the election literary events

These forums are designed to address the needs of voters who may feel disconnected from the election process or need clarification on the steps they need to take.

Each election literacy event will help anyone who has ever wondered how to make sure their vote counts or how the issues on the ballot impacts their neighborhood . Voter guides will also be available for attendees to take home.

Denise Lockwood, owner of Racine County Eye, explained the importance of making the process accessible to everyone.

"We know that some communities face more barriers to voting, whether it's understanding the process or feeling like their vote matters. This forum is about breaking down those barriers and ensuring everyone has the information they need to participate," she said.

Both election literacy events are free and open to all Racine residents. The Main Street Project will provide food and refreshments. To help organizers plan, RSVPs are encouraged by October 3 at RSVP Link .

Funded by the American Journalism Project, "Your Vote, Your Voice" is a partnership between Racine County Eye and Racine Monitor that ensures every resident can make informed decisions that impact the future of their community.
