Everton hilariously mocked former player Anthony Gordon after the Newcastle star missed a crucial penalty on his return to Goodison Park.

Sean Dyche 's Everton side secured a valuable goalless home draw against Newcastle on Saturday, with Gordon's miss ultimately proving to be the deciding factor in the encounter.

There's been bad blood between the England international and Everton supporters ever since he decided to leave the club in favour of joining Newcastle in January last year.

Gordon missed three days of training at the time of his transfer as he attempted to help the two clubs break a deadlock on an appropriate fee that was eventually settled at £45m.

His penalty miss against the Toffees saw a tame effort comfortably denied by Jordan Pickford to the delight of fans inside the ground and those on social media.

The club's official X account was asked by a fan to show Gordon's missed effort again with the buzzer noise that greets fans who fail to score in half-time fun at Goodison.

Everton were only more than too happy to agree and posted a video on their social media profile that has since gone viral with over 1.5million views.

Fans loved the exchange and tweeted their approval in a series of posts, with one comment stating: 'Superb trolling. Knew he'd miss! To be fair Gordon is a top player and we needed to sell but this is legendary trolling.'

Another fan similarly agreed, adding: 'Admin having so much fun with this and I'm all here for it.'

However, not everyone was best pleased with the exchange as one annoyed Newcastle supporter hit back, posting: 'You are a failed team. We stole Gordon from you for only 45 million.'

The 0-0 draw alleviated some early-season pressure on Dyche's Everton squad who are now two points above the relegation zone heading into the international break.
