DEKALB COUNTY, Ind. (WPTA) - The DeKalb County Sheriff's Office shares that a motorcyclist was injured in a crash in DeKalb County Saturday evening.

According to the office, the crash happened in the 5800 Block of County Road 35 around 4:30 p.m.

They say 41-year-old Andrew Becker of Kendallville was driving a truck with a trailer northbound and began to turn left into Byler Lane Winery while 33-year-old Braylon Gagnon was traveling southbound on a motorcycle.

An investigation indicates Gagnon saw Becker's truck and trailer, and hit his brakes hard, sending his motorcycle sideways and sliding on the ground until it came into contact with Becker's trailer. Gagnon's helmet came off during the crash, and he came to rest near his motorcycle in the roadway.

The Auburn Fire Department arrived on the scene and started providing medical assistance to Gagnon, who was then airlifted to a regional hospital with injuries including abrasions to his arms and legs, lacerations to his face, and head injuries.

The Auburn Fire Department, Parkview EMS, and Dekalb County Central Communications assisted the DeKalb County Sheriff's Office at the scene.
