A woman was shocked when she returned home from work one day to find dry laundry, a stocked fridge, and even an empty wine bottle.

The woman initially noticed something was wrong when she returned home on July 16 and realized items had been moved around in her lawn and her recycling bin was entirely emptied, BBC reported.

The suspect even left a note for the woman: "Don't worry, be happy, eat up and scratch."

According to authorities, other discrepancies included:

  • Filled bird feeders
  • New shoes unpacked and trash recycled
  • Groceries put away
  • Moved potted plants
  • Toothbrush heads replaced
  • An empty wine bottle
  • An opened wine bottle
  • A bowl of candy
  • Laundry hanging out to dry
  • The woman said she was "too scared" to return back to her home after the incident and had to stay with a friend.

"Two weeks after the crime until he was caught, I was living in a state of heightened anxiety I had never experienced before," she told the court. "I wondered if it was somebody who knew me, if it was going to turn into a stalking incident, if he knew I lived alone and if I had been targeted."

A similar burglary break in occurred on July 29, in which the suspect was caught on surveillance cameras. The man took a shower, ate and drank food, and even left the hot tub dirty, BBC reported. The homeowner saw the suspect on his cameras and sent his son-in-law to check on the house. The young man saw the suspect and told him to leave and he obliged, but was later arrested.

The man was identified as 36-year-old Damian Wojnilowicz and was connected to the initial burglary through DNA evidence. He was sentenced to 22 months of prison after pleading guilty to two counts of burglary.

According to Wojnilowicz's attorney Tabitha Walker, the man was homeless when the break-ins occurred and was apologetic to the victims.
