Expert predictions for Cowboys-Commanders: Will Dallas’ offense feast on Thanksgiving?

The annual Thanksgiving home game at AT&T Stadium takes place Thursday afternoon against the Washington Commanders, as the Cowboys try to keep pace with the Philadelphia Eagles atop the NFC East.

Here’s how columnists and beat writers see the game playing out:

Tim Cowlishaw The Commanders are busy reaching new lows , turning Tommy DeVito into a touchdown machine Sunday while having no hot water at FedEx Field. What are they going to do after a short week against a team averaging 40 points per game at home? This is the end of the walkover period of the Dallas schedule but should be another blowout to pad the club’s record as it gets ready for Seattle then the tough ride in December.

Cowboys 44, Commanders 9

Michael Gehlken Twenty. Thirty-five. Twenty-three. Thirty-two. The point margins in the Cowboys’ first four home games weren’t close. Meanwhile, all six of the Commanders’ road games so far were decided by one score. Something has to give. Quarterback Sam Howell gives Washington a puncher’s chance every week, but it won’t be enough against this pass rush.

Cowboys 34, Commanders 20

Damon Marx The Cowboys are taking care of their business during the soft part of the schedule, with blowout wins against the Giants and Panthers. Complete the job against the Commanders, who appear to be going nowhere, and Dallas will be sitting pretty and perhaps can threaten the Eagles in the NFC East. The Cowboys under Mike McCarthy win at home against bad teams. Check and check.

Cowboys 27, Commanders 13

David Moore Is there anything more compelling than a Thanksgiving Day matchup against a Washington team that has lost seven of its last nine games and has just been carved up by Giants rookie Tommy DeVito? OK, bad question. Let’s try another one. If you don’t find this game enticing are you at least looking forward to Dolly Parton’s halftime performance ? She’s a treasure. The Commanders are anything but.

Cowboys 27, Commanders 20

Kevin Sherrington Ron Rivera did the unthinkable Sunday: He lost to little Tommy DeVito, giving the Giants a sweep over the Commanders, putting Rivera’s job in dire jeopardy and giving the Cowboys a third straight patsy. The Cowboys will once again demonstrate their supremacy at home. They won’t even need DaRon Bland to put up another pick-six , but I wouldn’t bet against him.

Cowboys 38, Commanders 17

Calvin Watkins Washington is so inconsistent I wonder if Magic Johnson would coach this team better than Ron Rivera. It’s probably time to reset whatever is happening in Washington. The Cowboys will talk about this being a common opponent and there being lots of game tape to watch and all that when it comes to this contest. This game should end rather quickly and maybe people will get home at a decent hour.
