SAN ANTONIO - Get into spooky season this fall with a new spider exhibition that invites you into a web of discovery at the Witte Museum.

Spiders - From Fear to Fascination, runs from Sept. 28, 2024 to Jan. 5, 2025 in the Kathleen and Curtis Gunn Gallery. Developed by experts at the Australian Museum, the exhibition showcases more than 250 real specimens and aims to reveal the true nature of one of the world's most misunderstood creatures.

"For most people, spiders are a source of fear and dread," said Dirk Elmendorf, CEO & President of the Witte. "They are at the center of many Halloween decorations, but they are not really put into the context of the natural world. This exhibition uses both interactive experiences and live spiders to celebrate their diversity and importance in our ecosystem.I hope that this will help people see their next encounter with a spider in a new light."

Highlights of the exhibition include 16 different types of live spiders such as the Black Widow and Brown Recluse. Spider anatomy, behavior, and diet will be explored through a variety of interactive components. A large, interactive touch-screen table will display the global distribution of spiders, a virtual magnifying glass to discover "Backyard Spiders," and an augmented reality experience allowing visitors to hold digital spiders in their hands.

The exhibition is $6 plus general museum admission. Tickets are available for purchase or at the Walker Admissions Desk.
