AMARILLO, Texas (KFDA) - Family Support Services will observe Domestic Violence Awareness Month with the Amarillo Domestic Violence Coalition's Community Against Domestic Violence Walk.

The walk will be held on Oct. 2 at 11:30 a.m. and will begin at 203 SW 8th Avenue. It will bring together local government, community organizations, advocates and first responders to raise awareness to reduce and prevent family violence.

"The recent extreme family violence in Amarillo, with several domestic violence situations resulting in homicides, absolutely cannot be tolerated, and we must all play our part to ensure the safety of families in our community," said Kirk Daniels, chief executive officer of Family Support Services. "We ask the community to unite with us as we raise awareness about domestic violence and the resources we have available to support survivors in our community."

Family Support Services has a 24-hour bilingual domestic violence helpline, which can be reached at 806-374-5433. Walk-in visits are also available on Monday through Thursday from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Fridays from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
