'Felt Like A Celebrity': Steve Buresh's Cookie Store Sells Out On Opening Day
The baker-turned-business owner welcomed the community to his new concept, "Steve Buresh's Cookie Store," on Oct. 26. The day was so busy that not only did Buresh close to 2,000 cookies, but he also had to close shop three hours early after selling out.
"It was pretty crazy," Buresh told Patch. "We had a line out the door, around the parking lot. Way more than I expected. It was pretty cool.
"If anybody is eating lunch [at the Cheesecake Store], they probably see me walk back and forth, like, five or six times, especially if they're here for more than an hour," Buresh said.
The new store also functions as a large production kitchen for Buresh's crew to centralize baking for his businesses and provide more fundraising opportunities.
"My first car in high school was a Saturn," Buresh explained. "I still have it; it's in my garage. It's a 1991 Saturn. I also have another Saturn SUV. They don't make them anymore. People kind of know me for that car, and so when I developed the logo, I said I kind of want the cookie to have rings around it like Saturn. Then I said, well, I'm just going to make the entire Cookie Store space theme."
The shop features a selection of eight always-on-the-menu cookies — for the number of planets, minus Pluto, Buresh said — and a few flavors that rotate. When customers opt for multiple cookies instead of one, they're purchasing a "boost pack."
Since that first day, Buresh said business has remained steady. Customers have been loving the "Out of This World Brownie," a cross between a brownie and a cookie, and the "Kriskpies Cookie Crater," half chocolate chip, half rice krispy cookie. The latter also happens to be Buresh's favorite.
"We're been making rice krispy treats like crazy," he said.
Buresh said children have especially loved the space theme and that it has been rewarding seeing how excited they get at the sight of cookies.
