It was not "hot takeaway food" to which George Osborne wanted to apply VAT in his 2012 budget; rather, he sought to have hot baked goods included among taxed takeaway items ( Greggs festive ad star Nigella praises its pastry , 4 November, p3). It should have said 1483. This error was in print only.
