FEMA sets up mobile Disaster Recovery Center in Davison County

MITCHELL, S.D. (Dakota News Now) - The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) is continuing to help South Dakotans recover from June's severe floods.

The agency has returned to Davison County after spending a week in the area earlier this month.

FEMA has set up their final disaster recovery center in the state. Although this is the final stop in the state, FEMA wants to make sure it is very clear there is always help available.

FEMA Media Relations Specialist Tiana Suber said she encourages South Dakotans to apply for FEMA assistance and/or a Small Business Association loan before the October 15th deadline to be able to get assistance in a timely manner.

"If you decide you didn't need it right now, but you registered with us and then you decide that I do need the help, I found new damages, or anything of that case, at least you have that registration number and you can continue to get help after the deadline," said Suber.

So far, FEMA has approved of nearly $7 million through its Individuals and Households Program. The agency said it did not see nearly as many people in Davison County as they have in Lincoln and Union Counties where they helped roughly 30-50 people daily.

"Some people don't know where to start. They don't know what resources are available to them. That's why we are here, to let them know that they are not in this disaster recovery alone," Suber said.

Suber also says the recovery centers in Union and Lincoln County will be open until further notice.

If you have any questions or are in need of FEMA assistance, you can apply through the FEMA mobile app or by calling 800-621-3362 or find one of the three DRCs.
