Fire at Omaha apartment building kills cat, sends occupant to the hospital

OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) - Omaha fire investigators say a Saturday morning blaze killed a cat and sent one person to the hospital with life-saving measures in progress.

OFD tells 6 News crews were called to the Camelot Village Apartments near 92nd and Blondo Streets around 6:45 a.m. for a fire alarm. Crews did not spot flames or smoke on approach, but quickly found a fire within one of the units.

During a primary search, a firefighter located a victim. They were removed and taken to Nebraska Medicine to be evaluated. A cat was also found deceased. OPPD, MUD and Red Cross personnel were called to the scene; the occupant of the affected unit was displaced. The flames were knocked out within about 15 minutes.

No injuries to fire personnel have been reported. The cause of the fire is still being investigated. Damage is estimated at $38,000.
