Fire burns in Warner Springs area
WARNER SPRINGS, Calif. (FOX 5/KUSI) — Firefighters are battling a wildfire that broke out in Warner Springs, the third in the county to ignite within a few hour period Friday afternoon.
The fire, dubbed as the Resort Fire, is located at Highway 79, northwest of Warner Springs Resort, according to Cal Fire San Diego.
Around 4:15 p.m., SkyFOX/KUSI in the Sky was over the area where large clouds of white smoke and flames could be seen, burning the vegetation.
Cal Fire says the wildfire is 25 acres in size and 10% contained, as of 5:45 p.m.
Warner Unified School District notified the public on Facebook at 4:13 p.m. that the fire was "just north of the school on the other side of the Warner Springs Ranch" and that they were "loading kids into buses and vans right now."
"Los Coyotes students are loading onto vans and taking directly home. All other students who take Mr. Inocente's northbound bus will be taken on the bus down through Pala, and through Temecula home. The southbound route will leave immediately and will deliver students as normal. Please be at your bus stop to wait for the students," the school district said.
No structures have been threatened and no evacuations have been issued at this time. Cal Fire says "a significant amount of resources have been assigned and will work through the night in to tomorrow to strengthen control lines."
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
