First freeze of the season is expected Thursday morning in parts of Southern Utah
SALT LAKE CITY (ABC4) — Happy Wednesday, Utah! Expect chilly, mostly dry weather after Tuesday's cold front, bringing cold Canadian air to the region under northerly flow. A low-pressure system will hang out near the Four Corners, far enough away to keep any heavy rain or snow to the south and east.
So, what's the bottom line? The first freeze of the season is expected Thursday morning in parts of Southern Utah.
Temperatures will remain 10-15 degrees colder than normal this afternoon with highs in the 40s along the Wasatch Front, highs will climb into the mid-50s this afternoon in Lower Washington County.
Some moisture remains along the eastern mountain ranges, so light snow showers might linger there, adding light accumulations along the higher elevations. Our cold northerly flow will remain in place through the end of the week and overnight lows are expected to stay well below average.
Our first Freeze Watches of the season are out for Lower Washington County and Zion National Park on Thursday and Friday mornings. St. George is expected to hit 32 degrees on Thursday and Friday mornings. Plan this evening and protect any outdoor plants that could be damaged by freezing temperatures. The watch also includes Zion NP's lower elevations, where temperatures could dip to 28 degrees overnight.
On Friday, a ridge will start building into southwest Wyoming and Utah, bringing warmer temperatures and clearer skies for the weekend. By early next week, a larger trough could bring southwest winds and warmer air on Monday, with a cold front moving in on Tuesday. Stay tuned.
