Football Frenzy: McQuaid, Monroe, Hilton, Irondequoit, Canandaigua stay undefeated

McQuaid 38, Penfield 26

Three touchdowns in the fourth quarter from senior running back Allen Nesmith lifted McQuaid to victory over Penfield.

Nesmith also scored two rushing touchdowns in the first half, totaling five on the day with a long of 57 yards. He had 15 touches for 212 yards.

Penfield led 20-14 at the half and 20-17 at the end of the third quarter before the Knights finally took over in the fourth.

The Patriots were led by AJ Theodorakakos, who had 25 carries for 160 yards and three touchdowns. His final touchdown of the game came early in the fourth quarter to give Penfield a 26-24 lead, but Nesmith's 57-yarder gave McQuaid a lead they would not relinquish.

AJ Quagrello intercepted Penfield on the ensuing drive, which led to a drive that Nesmith finished with his final touchdown. Paul Rizzo recovered a fumble for the Knights to put the icing on the cake.

McQuaid (3-0) remains undefeated as it heads to Hilton on Friday, September 27th. Penfield (1-2) will travel to Aquinas on Saturday, September 28th.

Monroe 46, Brockport 2

The Blue Devils were able to stifle Monroe's dangerous offense to start the game, but the Red Jackets scored the final 46 points of the contest to stay undefeated.

Brockport led 2-0 after the first quarter, getting good pressure to the quarterback and tackling Monroe's playmakers in space. Tyler Davis and Shayne Lessar combined for a sack to force a punt later in the first. A low snap caused trouble for Monroe's punter and Tyler Judd tackled him in the end zone for a safety.

However, the second quarter and beyond belonged to the Red Jackets.

Monroe scored three times in the second to take a 20-2 halftime lead. Tahj Mullins scored a short rushing touchdown, Pooty Cunningham tossed a 32-yard touchdown to Luis Falu, and Messiah Hampton had an 85-yard punt return touchdown for the eighth-ranked team in the state.

Mullins finished with 287 yards on 20 carries and a score. Cunningham went 12 for 15 with 187 yards and two touchdowns. Jermaine Montgomery had a rushing touchdown and led the Monroe defense with 15 tackles. Terrance Barner returned a fumble for a touchdown and Anthony Omebe had two forced fumbles.

Monroe (3-0) will host East/WOIS on Saturday, September 28th at 12:00 p.m. in the highly-anticipated showdown of city powerhouses. Brockport (2-1) will travel to the Rochester Community Sports Complex to face Wilson on Friday, September 27th.

Webster Thomas 42, Spencerport 28

Whatever halftime speech new Thomas head coach Jasson Jobson gave to the Titans must have been a good one. The Titans scored 35 straight points to turn a 21-7 halftime deficit into a 42-21 lead and the first victory of the year for Thomas.

The Titans opened the second half with a 60-yard touchdown from Levi Kulik to Sean Marlin. On the ensuing Spencerport possession, Joshua Jobson forced a fumble on a sack and Santino Sacco scooped it up and ran 22 yards for a defensive touchdown and a 22-21 lead.

Michael Wells ran in a 27-yard touchdown to close the third quarter and Kulik tossed a score to Ashton Thomas to open the fourth quarter. Finally, Marco Morelli scored a rushing touchdown from 45 yards out to close out the scoring for Thomas. It was the second score of the day for Morelli, who finished with 92 yards.

Thomas (1-2) will host Victor on Friday, September 27th. Spencerport will visit Irondequoit on the same evening.

Hilton 21, Rush-Henrietta 14

Senior John DiBattisto powered the Cadets to a 3-0 start on the season, scoring two rushing touchdowns and grabbing an interception on defense.

The Cadets and Royal Comets traded touchdowns and were tied 14-14 at the half before DiBattisto produced a three-yard rushing touchdown at the end of the third quarter to put Hilton out front for good.

On Rush-Henrietta's last drive, DiBattisto picked it off to seal the win in the final minute.

DiBattisto finished with 120 yards on 30 carries. Rush-Henrietta had leads of 7-0 and 14-7, with the Cadets answering both times to tie the game up.

Also contributing to Hilton's victory was senior Brayden Pike, who made three catches for 52 yards and a touchdown.

Rush-Henrietta was led by sophomore Justin Medina with two rushing touchdowns.

Hilton (3-0) will host McQuaid on Friday, September 27th. Rush-Henrietta (1-2) will travel to UPrep on the same evening.

East/World of Inquiry 61, Greece Athena 21

After giving up a touchdown on the first play from scrimmage, the Eagles turned things around and scored 38 points in the first half to earn a dominant home win.

Athena's Jacob Strebel connected with Zaire Good for a long touchdown on the first play to give the Trojans a 7-0 lead.

But the Eagles answered quickly as Da'Mari Green went 67 yards to the house for a rushing touchdown to tie it up. After Jeremiah Tucker had a sack/fumble that East recovered, QB Tyler Benjamin ran in at touchdown to give East/WOIS a lead they would never give up.

Anthony Hampton also had a rushing touchdown in the first half and Taye Brown and Dezmon Jackson caught touchdown passes from Benjamin. Athena's only other touchdown in the half came on a kick return touchdown from Good.

Benjamin finished with 151 passing yards, two touchdown passes, and a touchdown run. Green had a pair of scores and 227 yards on 15 rushes. Hampton had a pair of touchdowns and 103 yards and recovered a fumble.

East/WOIS (2-1) will take the trip to Monroe on Saturday, September 28th for a battle of defending state semifinalists. Athena (1-2) will host Canandaigua on Friday, September 27th.

Irondequoit 26, Webster Schroeder 7

The Eagles scored all of their points in the first half to move to 3-0 on the season.

Quarterback Taiden Makubire was an efficient 10-for-14 for 178 yards and a touchdown. He also scored on a QB sneak. Cam Freeman had 115 rushing yards on 14 carries and a touchdown. Brien Walker had five catches for 68 yards and a touchdown while Josh Barr had three grabs for 68 yards. Myles Wynn also had a rushing touchdown for the Eagles.

Cooper Moore had two interceptions on defense for the Eagles and had a team-high 12 tackles.

Irondequoit (3-0) will host Spencerport on Friday, September 27th. Schroeder (0-3) will host Churchville-Chili on the same evening.

UPrep 20, Pittsford 7

UPrep held Pittsford to just one touchdown on Friday night, taking the win over the Panthers 20-7.

After a scoreless first half by both teams, the Griffins finally got things rolling with a trio of scores in the second half. The Griffins were led by senior Kamari Miller who totaled 74 yards on eight carries with two touchdowns. UPrep's other touchdown came from junior Paris Brooken, hauling in a 31-yard pass from Gavin White.

Pittsford's lone touchdown was scored on a rush by senior Douglas Denning late in the fourth quarter. That cut the lead to 12-7, but the Griffins recovered the onside kick and Miller had a long touchdown for an insurance score.

Javy Connor and Jayvon Johnson both had interceptions on defense for the Griffins, while Cashmere Williams forced a fumble.

UPrep (1-2) will play Rush-Henrietta on the road on Friday, September 27th. Pittsford (0-3) will host Fairport on Saturday, September 28th.

Canandaigua 38, Greece Arcadia 20

The Gray Wolves dominated on the ground to improve their record to 3-0 on the season.

Trey Comella had 18 rushing attempts for 145 yards and a pair of touchdowns to lead the way. Sam Clark had just three carries, but found the end zone two times, picking up 13 yards on the game.

Quarterback Drew Williamee ran for 116 yards and threw for 115, tossing a touchdown to Nate Brinza. Brinza had three catches for 85 yards. Asher Colletti also had 38 rushing yards on nine carries.

On defense, Talan Peral had a pick-six for the Gray Wolves. Canandaigua led 25-0 at the half and scored the first 31 points of the game.

Arcadia ran in three touchdowns on the day, two by Ethan Alia and one by Xavier Smith.

Canandaigua (3-0) will travel to Athena on Friday, September 27th while Arcadia (0-3) will host Batavia on the same night.

Eastridge 38, Wilson 6

The Lancers led 29-0 at the half to earn their first victory of the season.

Quarterback Benny Calixto had a stellar game for the Lancers. He completed nine of his eleven attempts for 248 yards, throwing for three touchdowns. He also had a rushing touchdown on four carries for 31 yards.

Steven Masetta had five catches for 155 yards and two touchdowns, while Dwayne Collins had the other touchdown grab. Briyceton Thomas had 146 yards on the ground, scoring once on 17 attempts. Christian Beason had three catches for 69 yards.

Eastridge (1-2) will host Vertus on Saturday, September 28th while Wilson (1-2) will host Brockport on Friday, September 27th.
