SELKIRK, Scotland (AP) — Former Scotland rugby captain Stuart Hogg pleaded guilty to a charge of abusing his estranged wife.

The 32-year-old Hogg appeared at Selkirk Sheriff Court on Monday and admitted to a charge accusing him of shouting and swearing at his wife "in an aggressive manner" as well as tracking her movements and sending text messages that "were alarming and distressing in nature."

British news agency PA reported that Hogg was taken into custody in February after police were called due to Hogg "shouting and swearing" and he was then placed on a bail order stipulating that he could not contact his wife or enter the family home.

Hogg, who plays for French club Montpellier, is in the process of divorce proceedings.

Sentencing was scheduled for Dec. 5. ___
