Sports Former SEC Quarterback Unleashes on Ex-Coach Hugh Freeze After Auburn Loss

After the Auburn Tigers lost to the Arkansas Razorbacks on Saturday, a former SEC quarterback blasted his ex-head coach, Hugh Freeze.

Freeze, Auburn's head coach, made the call to start freshman quarterback Hank Brown over Payton Thorne, who had started the first two games. Freeze's decision followed Thorne's rough Week 2 performance, where he threw four interceptions.

Brown would go on to throw three interceptions and was replaced by Thorne to start the second half.

In Freeze's postgame press conference, he heavily criticized the abysmal play of his two quarterbacks so far in the young 2024 college football season.

"I know that there's people open, and I know that we're running the football," Freeze said. "We've got to find a guy that won't throw it to the other team and we've got to find running backs that hold on to it."

Freeze was the head coach of the Ole Miss Rebels from 2012 to 2016. His quarterback was Bo Wallace.

Wallace saw Freeze's comments after Saturday's game and immediately took to X to unleash on him. He stated that Freeze always throws his players under the bus and never takes the blame himself.

"We're approaching the point that he's thrown so many QBs under the bus , that maybe no one wants to play for him??," Wallace said. "His offense helped me tremendously put numbers up when I blew my shoulder out.... But why is it someone else's fault every time there's a loss ?? ... but when there's a win I watch the press conferences just to count how many times the word "I" is used... appreciate what he did for me , my son wouldn't be playing for him tho."

Wallace then shared a little insight into his personal experiences playing under Freeze.

"But that dude has never helped me a day in his life.... It was always only about getting a win for him so he could collect his extra 100 racks a win," Wallace added. "If y'all knew the medications and shots I was taking to get that man his money you wouldn't believe they would let you walk on a field like that."

During Wallace's three-year college career under Freeze at Ole Miss, he threw for 9,534 yards, 62 touchdowns, and 41 interceptions.

Freeze is in his second season as Auburn's head coach after a four-year stint at Liberty. In year one, his team finished with a record of 6-7. Now, in year two, Auburn is off to a 2-2 start.

As of now, it is unclear who will start at quarterback for the Tigers in Week 5 against the Oklahoma Sooners. The kickoff time for that one is to be determined.
