BALTIMORE, MD — A former teacher accused of sexually abusing a student nearly a decade ago was captured at Baltimore/Washington International Airport on Sunday while attempting to leave the country, according to authorities.

Mark Anthony Williams, 56, of Fairfax, Virginia, was arrested and charged with first-degree sexual abuse after authorities said he engaged in sex acts with a minor victim over a five-month period in 2014.

According to police, Williams fled the country during an investigation into the abuse, which happened in Washington, D.C.

Authorities said police were alerted last week that Williams had returned to the country. A judge issued a warrant for his arrest the following day.

Police said Williams was arrested at the airport by U.S. Customs and Border Protection agents. He currently is awaiting extradition to Washington, D.C.
