Fox, Mayberry win city council seats
Nov. 7—Mark Fox and James Mayberry earned seats on the Crossville City Council as they received the most votes during Tuesday's election.
Fox received 1,823 votes, 23.04% of the votes, the top of the Crossville City Council candidates by 281.
"I am honored and humbled by the support I received. I look forward to serving Crossville. The input given to me was clear and unified from our citizens. We have more exciting times ahead!" Fox said in a statement sent to the Chronicle.
Mayberry was the second highest with 1,542, 19.49% of the votes.
"I want to thank everyone for the confidence and support in my election to the city council. I vow to do my best to enhance everyone's experiences with all aspects of the city of Crossville," Mayberry said.
Danny Wyatt received the third most votes with 1,481, 18.72% and J.H. Graham III received 1,470, 18.58%.
Rob Harrison, who is currently serving on the city council, received 1,024 votes.
Kristopher George Kade Cole received 550 votes.
Fox and Mayberry will replace Harrison and Scot Shanks, whose terms on the council end Dec. 1. The two new councilmen will be sworn in on the first Monday of December, which is Dec. 2. A time has not yet been scheduled.
Mayberry previously served as Crossville mayor, and Fox is new to the council.
In the Crab Orchard mayor's race Emmett Sherrill received the most votes with 226. Challengers Michael Findley received 96 votes; and Racheal Hansen got 37.
Alderman Winona Christopher received 214 and Todd Kemmer got 116.
Former President Donald Trump won the race for the presidency with 295 electoral votes over Vice President Kamala Harris, who had 226 electoral votes. It takes 270 Electoral Votes to win the presidency.
Harris conceded the race Wednesday and urged her supporters to accept the loss.
Republican U.S. Sen. Marsha Blackburn won her re-election bid Tuesday, securing a victory in GOP-dominant Tennessee after largely avoiding her Democratic opponent state Rep. Gloria Johnson.
Blackburn easily won Cumberland County, as well as the state in her second run for senator. In 2018 Blackburn was the first woman elected as U.S. senator in Tennessee.
According to the Cumberland County Election Commission, a total of 35,015 people in Cumberland County voted in the election, which is a 70.75% voter turnout out of 49,490 registered voters.
"It was a record number of voters. In 2020 we had 32,000. This time we had a record number of early voters," Jill Davis administrator of elections said. "I thought we would have more voters on Election Day."
A total of 23,699 people early voted, and 9,615 voters cast their ballots on Election Day in Cumberland County.
All results are unofficial until certified by the Cumberland County Election Commission. The election commission will meet Nov. 18 at 11 a.m. to certify the results.
Davis explained the voter applications are compared with the corresponding machines to ensure the numbers match.
