Frederick County Public Schools staff honored for efforts in saving choking baby
FREDERICK, Md. ( DC News Now ) — Several Hillcrest Elementary School staff were honored during a Frederick County Public School (FCPS) board meeting Wednesday after helping save a baby that was choking and unresponsive.
During an early dismissal day at Hillcrest Elementary School on Sept. 20, a parent of a student rushed for help. They said their baby was choking and couldn't breathe.

Hillcrest staff, Katie Erickson and Monica Martinez jumped into action doing CPR on the baby until paramedics arrived.
Almost two months later, Erickson and Martinez were honored by the county for saving the baby's life.
"After being able to hold her, [it] was just like this beautiful sigh of relief, and also being extremely grateful that we were all there to help her and knowing that she was going to be okay," Erickson said.
"It was a god is good all the time, so just seeing that she was thriving, happy, and she was 100% amazing," Martinez added.
