STATESBORO, Ga. (WSAV) — The Georgia Southern football team's hopes of making the Sun Belt title game took a hit after a home loss to Troy on Nov. 16 at Paulson Stadium.

Georgia Southern was unable to defeat a Troy team that only had two wins on the year before the game. The visiting Trojans only gained their second win of the year the previous week prior against Coastal Carolina. Georgia Southern led by three points at the half and three points at the end of the third quarter. However, in the final frame, the Eagles were outscored, 14-3.

Quarterback JC French was 17 for 28 for 171 yards, no touchdowns and one interception. The turnover came with two minutes remaining in the contest. The play occurred after Troy scored to go up eight points.

Georgia Southern falls to second place in the Sun Belt East Division standings at 4-2. They are a game back of Marshall, a team they defeated earlier in the season, 24-23, at home.

Next week, Georgia Southern hits the road to face Coastal Carolina at 3:30 p.m.
