Gervonta Davis Called Out to Fight ‘Fair and Square’ as Boxing World Told to ‘Stop Acting Like Tank Is a Dawg’

For almost a year now, Floyd Schofield has been clear about his desire to face the WBA lightweight champion, Gervonta Davis . He, alongside his father, has been constantly calling out Tank in live interviews since the start of the year. In February, Floyd Schofield Sr. stated, "We going to beat the s**t out of Tank" while talking about the eventual showdown. Furthermore, Kid Austin also took slight jabs at the expense of the Baltimore native. Things changed when the 18-0 boxer fought Rene Tellez Giron a few days ago. Even though the Jersey City native secured his career's 18th victory, it was not a good showing, and Tank did not miss the chance to get back at him. The rivalry has since started to heat up as on Thursday, Floyd Schofield Sr. called out Tank and questioned his selection of opponents. Gervonta Davis is not the man In a clip shared by FightHubTV, Floyd Schofield Sr. is questioning the quality of opponents Gervonta Davis chooses to fight against. He stated how every boxer had to either shed weight or move up a division, which gives Tank a significant advantage. "Who did Tank fight that he did not weight drain or make them move up? Who Tank fought fair and square?" stated Schofield Sr. while mentioning Mario Barrios, who was severely weight-drained during his showdown against Tank in 2021. Schofield Sr. then mentioned the last fight he could remember where Tank fought a natural 135-pounder. He mentioned how the fight against Isaac Cruz was anything but a perfect showing for the Baltimore native. " Last time he was in there with Pitbull Cruz, he didn't stop his a**," stated Schofield Sr. before mentioning how Cruz "is not an A-level fighter." Even though Gervonta Davis defeated Cruz dominatingly, it is one of the two fights that the Baltimore resident has not won via a knockout. The first came in 2014 against German Meraz, which was a six-round featherweight fight. So, the fight against Cruz was a real question mark on Tank's capabilities. According to Schofield Sr. Gervonta, Davis is just a regular fighter when he comes against a natural 135-pounder. That is why everyone should "stop acting like Tank is a d**g like that. " As mentioned earlier, this is not the first time that the father-son duo has called out the 30-0 boxer. Earlier, Austin Kid expressed his desire to fight Tank but also stated that the WBA champion would rather change weights than face him. Floyd Schofield predicts Tank to run away After defeating Giron and climbing up to No.2 in the WBA rankings, Floyd Schofield was quite confident in his chances against Gervonta Davis. But Austin Kid also stated that Tank would rather vacate his belt and move up to 140 lbs than face him. According to Schofield, he would have to face Edwin De Los Santos, ranked third for the vacated belt. While the 18-0 boxer paid respect to Tank's power and skill, he stated, "He's just a regular man with power." After the Lamont Roach fight, Tank would have to fight almost every big name at 135 lbs. The only opponent remaining for him at lightweight is Shakur Stevenson , and that fight is not close to happening. So, moving up to 140, where there are a lot more attractive opponents, makes sense. But considering how disappointed fans have been by Tank's choice of opponents, a final fight against Austin Kid to prove himself before going up is not a bad idea. What do you think about Floyd Schofield Sr.'s comments on Gervonta Davis? Do you think Tank should have one last fight against a natural lightweight before moving up? Let us know your thoughts down below.
