Giant Eagle Expands Pittsburgh Presence As rumors swirl new grocery store competitors could be on their way, Cranberry-based Giant Eagle is opening a new store in Pittsburgh.PITTSBURGH, PA — Giant Eagle's newest supermarket opens Thursday on Noblestown Road in the city's Westwood section near the neighboring suburbs of Green Tree and Crafton. The store previously was a Shop 'n Save.
Giant Eagle's expansion in the West End comes amid reports that several other grocery chains - including Wegmans, Meijer and Sprouts Farmers Market -are eying potential Pittsburgh-area locations.
"We are thrilled to introduce our newest Giant Eagle to our Westwood neighbors — we have been hard at work over the past few months to bring this store to life, and we can't wait to share it with the community," Giant Eagle spokesman Dan Donovan said in a statement. "We feel that we've curated a shopping experience to meet the needs of area guests, bringing together a combination of quality and value."
The Noblestown Road Giant Eagle will at 6 a.m. Thursday. The first 100 people in the store will receive a swag bag filled will $150 in seasonal products and savings and a $10 Giant Eagle gift card (limit of one per household).
Opening celebratory activities will include free coffee, live music, product sampling, along with several games and giveaways for those in attendance. Guests will also have the opportunity to meet Iceburgh, the Pirate Parrot, Steely McBeam, Lil' Tot from GetGo, and Ryan Peters from on YouTube, Instagram, and TikTok.
A ceremonial ribbon-cutting will take place at 10 a.m.
The store also will make a $10,000 donation to The Education Partnership to support the organization's work to make school supplies available, at no cost, to students and teachers in need, and a 100,000-pound food donation to 412 Food Rescue to help the organization reach its goal to rescue 5 million pounds of food by the end of 2024.
