Churchville, N.Y (WROC) — Congratulations to Kelly Dunham, our latest Golden Apple Award winner. "She's like an amazing teacher. Always has a smile on her face and I just feel like she cares about all of her students individually," says student Nicholas Buscemi.

Dunham is one of those teachers that students flock to.

Principal Mary Leach says, "Kelly is an amazing teacher. She fosters relationships with all students, they seek her out. She is willing to work with anyone. She really is the most welcoming, nurturing teacher that I have ever worked with"

Ms. Dunham teaches living environment to 9th graders at Churchville-Chili High School. Buscemi nominated her for a Golden Apple Award and many fellow students also wanted to join in on the surprise. Dunham has been a teacher for 32 years.

"I wanted to be a teacher since I was in 4th or 5th grade, I just had to decide between biology and English. Clearly, I chose biology, but it just something I always wanted to do," says Dunham.

She says it's easy for her to go the extra mile for students. Because school isn't just about academics. "We are here because we want to be here and want to help kids not just about them passing a test", says Dunham.

She says the most rewarding part of the job is when she hears from former students about the impact she has had on their life. "In those ways they let you know that you did help them, you had an effect on them, helped them get through and that's the best part", Dunham adds.
