Grand Forks Police, SWAT respond to barricaded man
Nov. 5—GRAND FORKS — A man with an outstanding warrant who had made suicidal comments barricaded himself in a home in Grand Forks on Monday, Nov. 4, prompting a response from the Grand Forks Regional SWAT team and other entities.
According to a report from the Grand Forks Police Department, officers were dispatched to the 500 block of Cherry Street late Monday afternoon for a man who was making suicidal comments. It was the second time police responded to the address on Monday. The man told police he was armed with a knife and would not voluntarily surrender.
According to the GFPD report sent to the media, "the male subject was informed that he had a warrant for his arrest but he refused to come downstairs. The male was then observed opening a second story window of the residence in an attempt to escape. The male then went into a bedroom and barricaded himself."
Negotiators established dialogue with the man and twice deployed a light sound diversionary device. Later, a chemical agent was used, prompting the man to exit and be taken into police custody.
During the event, traffic was diverted and nearby residents were asked to shelter in place.
The man was taken to jail and charged with felonious restraint and felony resisting arrest. Police did not release his name.
